DI55ECCIONS: Drawing as Narrative: Mapping a Process, by Iván McGill

On Wednesday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m., we invite you to the new talk in our DI55ECCIONS series, featuring visual artist and comic author Iván McGill.

Why shouldn’t you miss it?

Because it will be a spoken and live‑drawn narrative, created in an analog way, that will trace Iván’s career. Through projects, conceptual concerns, and conclusions that have accompanied him, he will draw a visual map that grows throughout the talk. The piece will function as a graphic report in which the one who draws is the one who speaks: a hybrid work between experimental comics, diagrams, and cartography, where rhythm, legibility, and symbolism are placed at the service of a shared reading. A way of making the creative process visible as it happens.

About the lecturer

Understanding comics as a vehicle for multiple formats and media, Iván McGill experiments through his work with a mix of languages (animation, video games, and illustration) to address new paradigms such as digital identity, dataism, and information overload. For Iván, experimental comics serve both as a starting point and as a meeting point to represent realities in constant transformation.

He is co‑founder of the narrative studio Shaman Garage, co‑creator of the collective publication Búnker24, and a member of the organizing team of the independent comics festival GRAF (the poster for the new edition, which will take place at Fabra i Coats on March 14 and 15, has been designed by Iván himself).

Awarded the Comic Barcelona grant for emerging talents in 2023, his work has been presented at independent and transmedia comics festivals at both national and international levels through exhibitions, talks, and workshops.

Held at our inspiring campus in the 22@ district, the series invites leading professionals from different disciplines to share their experiences, projects, and visions of today’s creative industries.
