Two alumni receive an Annie Award on behalf of Nomada Studio

Arnau Martín and Ian García, alumni of LCI Barcelona and members of Nomada Studio, accepted the Annie Award for Best Character Animation in a Video Game for "Neva" in Los Angeles.

Arnau Martín and Ian García, alumni of our Gaming, Animation, and VFX Department and members of the Nomada Studio team, traveled to Los Angeles to attend the 52nd edition of the Annie Awards, where they accepted the award for Best Character Animation in a Video Game for "Neva" on behalf of the studio.

Arnau and Ian have been working for years at the Barcelona-based studio founded by Conrad Roset, Adrián Cuevas, and Roger Mendoza. As members of the animation team for "Neva," they had the opportunity to attend the event representing Nomada Studio, receive the award, and deliver an emotional acceptance speech.

The International Animated Film Association (ASIFA Hollywood), headquartered in Los Angeles, has been presenting these awards since 1972. These accolades are considered the Oscars of animation due to their significance and global reach. Originally created to recognize animated films, over time, they have expanded to include new categories, including awards for television productions and video games.

What is "Neva" about?

"Neva" is the second video game designed and developed by Nomada Studio, which gained international recognition in 2018 with the award-winning indie game "Gris". The studio made history by becoming the first Spanish developer to win at the prestigious The Game Awards—an achievement they repeated last December with "Neva", winning the Games For Impact award.

This action-packed adventure tells the emotional story of Alba, a young woman who bonds with a wolf cub (which gives the game its name) after a traumatic encounter with dark forces. Together, they embark on a perilous journey through a world that was once beautiful but is now slowly crumbling around them. They will do whatever it takes to survive and build a new home.

Our alumni took the opportunity during their acceptance speech to deliver a powerful message: "With this project, we wanted to explore the human impact on the environment and the urgent need to protect our planet. Even though some governments still deny global warming, seeing projects like "Neva" being recognized gives us hope and reminds us that art has the power to inspire people to create change".

Congratulations to the entire Nomada Studio team, especially Arnau and Ian!
