Max Pinckers
Artist, researcher, and educator whose practice questions the conventions of documentary photography through theatricality, staging, and speculative strategies. His work examines the notion of truth in contemporary visual language.
Holding a PhD in Arts from KASK School of Arts in Ghent, Max has been awarded the Leica Oskar Barnack Award (2018) and the Edward Steichen Award (2015). He is the founder of Lyre Press and The School of Speculative Documentary, an educational initiative that reimagines the modes of production and circulation of the documentary image. His work is exhibited in international institutions and is part of both public and private collections.
Each project emerges from extensive research and collaborative working processes. He often positions himself in opposition to preconceived ideas of documentation, aiming to instill skepticism in the viewer.
His teaching approach combines artistic research and speculative methodologies, inviting students to rethink the notion of truth and reality in contemporary visual language.
