Online masterclass: Key aspects of Japanese animation, with Mar Expósito

Mar Expósito, animator, director, and lecturer at Tokyo Design Academy, will explain from Japan how animation works and what makes anime a unique language. We will explore the key aspects of planning, drawing, and storytelling within the Eastern approach, and how it differs from the Western model.

Throughout this masterclass, organized in collaboration with Mecal - International Short Film and Animation Festival of Barcelona, we will understand the full process, from the conception of the storyboard to the final images on screen. Through visual examples, we will see how movement is simplified, how the production pipeline is structured, where detail is concentrated, and which tools are used, both digital and traditional. The session will include a Q&A.
