LCI Barcelona takes part for the first time in the Madrid Design Festival

This 2025, we debut at the prestigious Madrid Design Festival with the installation "The Sea Inside the City", which will be part of the exhibition "The Line Dreams”. The exhibition, produced by the festival and held at the Fernán Gómez Theatre in Madrid, will open this Thursday, February 6, and can be visited until April 20.
"The Line Dreams" delves into the relationship between light and space, offering a sensory experience that invites reflection on perception and creativity. Curated by Javier Riera, with the advisory of ROOM and design by Studio Animal, the exhibition brings together 45 creators and brands showcasing nearly 70 works and installations. These proposals stand out for their ability to transform spaces through light, exploring its artistic and emotional power.
A tribute to Barcelona’s urban identity
Our project, "The Sea Inside the City", explores the deep connection between the sea and the neighborhoods of Barcelona, reflecting how this relationship has evolved over time: from industrial wasteland to international leisure attraction, from shantytown memory to Olympic miracle, and from social cohesion space to a symbol of civic protest.
The installation uses innovative Feel Free modules, which create a unique atmosphere and a visually striking journey through the use of light to illuminate chains and generate distinctive visual effects. The proposal aims to bring the essence of the sea to the heart of the city, evoking both its natural beauty and its complex social history.
A collaborative project of emerging talent
The installation was designed and developed by our alumni Pol Vallès, Anna Canals, Laia Huguet, Abril Pérez Sanders, Aida Ponce, Ariadna Callol, Eva Shulyak, Valentina Peña, Júlia Gil, Laura Beltrán, Lorena Fernández, Manel Fors, Maria Civico, Marina Martínez, Nuria Crespo, Paola Mantovani, Paula Giner, Rodrigo Plano, Sara Bando, Valentina Herrera, and Xiyang Ye during their time as students at LCI Barcelona, under the mentorship of professor Edgar Domínguez, director of our new Master in Lighting Design Projects. The project has also received support from Kriskadecor and COM.LED, which have provided both materials and technology to bring "The Sea Inside the City" to life after its presentation at Llum BCN 2024.
In the words of Mariele Violano, Project Manager of Business Solutions at LCI Barcelona, having our project selected for the Madrid Design Festival 2025 “is a source of pride and an opportunity to showcase, once again, the talent and creativity of our students—qualities that we, as a School, know how to nurture, enhance, and bring to light”.
From February 7 to April 20, don't miss “The Sea Inside the City" at the Fernán Gómez Theatre in Madrid!
