As part of Milan Design Week, taking place this week, the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation presents the exhibition “Inspired in Barcelona: Luce”, curated by designer and collector Stefano Colli. From April 8 to 13, the Scalabrini Hall of the Church of Santa Maria del Carmine, located in Milan’s Brera district, will showcase over 100 lighting products, organized into three categories: timeless classics, avant-garde proposals, and emerging Catalan design.
This last category will spotlight two projects by students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design developed in our Design Lab under the guidance of faculty member Miguel Guerrero:
Lumina – Vinyet Parellada Bové
This ceiling lamp is much more than just a light source—it’s a design piece created using 3D printing technology with PLA. Its bold yet organic form strikes a perfect balance between elegance and functionality. The pleated structure creates a visual rhythm that adds depth and character to any space. The open bottom design directs the light efficiently, while the subtle slits between the elements allow a gentle glow to filter through, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. A fusion of art, innovation, and design that transforms any environment into a modern, cozy retreat.

B.O.B – Iván Paracuellos, Laia Navarro, and Pol González
This lamp draws inspiration from the silhouette of sea sponges—specifically the Aplysina fistularis, commonly known as the yellow tube sponge. This species, from the order Verongiida, served as the starting point for exploring tubular structures to create a floor or pendant lamp. By simplifying its organic shape, our students sought to play with volume, light, and shadow, resulting in an innovative and visually striking piece. Their aim was to translate the fluidity and diversity of the sponge into a functional design, all while maintaining a fresh, creative, and contemporary perspective.

“Inspired in Barcelona: Luce” is a project by the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation, promoted by the Barcelona City Council’s Department of Culture and Creative Industries through the Disseny Hub Barcelona (DHub), and by the Government of Catalonia through ACCIÓ – Catalonia Trade & Investment. In the words of Stefano Colli: “Light, as a symbol of identity and creativity, is a reflection of our times—a showcase of the products and designs that define excellence in Catalonia’s lighting sector. With this selection, I wanted to tell a story and pay tribute to both the pioneers and the leading voices of today’s scene”.
The installation will be inaugurated on Tuesday, April 8, at an event attended by our General Director, Sílvia Viudas, and LCI Education’s Vice President Europe, Alessandro Manetti.
