Our student received the jury’s recognition with “905”, a very personal project developed as her final degree project. This is how the author herself explains it:

“I grew up in Cota 905, a neighborhood where violence is part of everyday life, just as in my family, marked by wounds no one wants to name, by silences, and by a legacy we never asked for, but still have to carry.

When I left Venezuela, distance allowed me to see everything from another perspective. I began to wonder to what extent we are really family: do biological ties determine our relationship? Does distancing myself from my family make me a bad person? In what way can I understand or improve my position in the family environment in which I grew up?

Everything I show here is born from my memory, from photographs, archival documents, staged reconstructions, and still lifes of objects marked by violence.

Each story is a fragment of that family system crossed by machismo, homophobia, submission, violence, addictions, precariousness, and abandonment.

Cota 905 is not just the setting, it is the place where I learned to survive. Now, at last, I want to talk about it.”
