From October 9 to 11, we'll be taking part in SAGA Barcelona Game Fest, the new Catalan video game festival born from the union of three initiatives that had each spent years driving the sector forward: BCN Game Fest, run by the Institut Català de l'Oci Alternatiu i Noves Tecnologies (ICOA); RetroBarcelona; and SAGA Saló del Gaming, run by Plataforma per la Llengua.
This first edition is set to become southern Europe's biggest video game gathering, spanning more than 14,000 m2 at the Montjuïc venue of Fira de Barcelona, with attendance expected to top 20,000 visitors. There will be more than 500 playable game stations, alongside around 80 activities including talks, workshops, competitions, and shows, a family zone, the Museu del Videojoc de Catalunya (MUVIC), and a business area expecting over 1,200 meetings between studios, publishers, and investors. Japan is the guest country, and Catalan is the event's official language, with around 60 video games available in it.
One of SAGA Barcelona Game Fest's main goals is to connect the industry with future talent: universities and schools specializing in video games will have their own stands to showcase their programs and student projects. Ours, stand I01-2, has been designed by LCI Barcelona faculty and students, and will let visitors try out these four video games:
Halcyon
This game puts you in the shoes of Hendrick, a young pirate apprentice determined to make a name for himself on the high seas. His path crosses with the trail of the legendary Treasure of the Thousand Worlds, hidden by the feared August Flint. It's an isometric roguelike with deck-building mechanics: one deck moves the character, another handles attack and defense, and every decision matters for surviving level after level.

BugZonia
This project shrinks the battle down to a tiny scale. Beneath the canopy of the Amazon rainforest, two factions of the micro-world fight over every inch of territory. Players choose between the builder ants, who conquer new ground, and the defender ants, who protect the forest. It's an abstract board game for two players, where you compete by strategically moving your units across the board.

Time to Sleep
In this game, Scottie has 20 seconds, a half-finished story, and a couple of mischievous campers who refuse to go to sleep. His final scout training test depends on it: earning the storyteller badge. Inspired by tangram, the game sets up a race-against-the-clock puzzle where you have to think fast and shape a story good enough to lull the kids to sleep.

BattleBeards
This project goes all in on head-to-head combat. Based on the Marioneta books and on "Dan, Dan, Dish" mechanics, it's a frantic one-on-one showdown where the goal is to be the last bearded fighter standing.
