The 21st edition of Barcelona Design Week takes place from October 14 to 25, under the theme PRO-TEST: Prototyping and Testing. Organized by the Barcelona Creativity & Design Foundation with the support of the Ajuntament de Barcelona, Disseny Hub Barcelona, and FAD - Foment de les Arts i el Disseny, it's one of the city's leading creative events and one of the reference Design Weeks on the international calendar.
Once again, we'll be taking part in BDW as a sponsor and associated venue, hosting various activities on our campus (carrer d'Àlaba, 124):
nou NEW: Sustainable Visions
🗓️ Thursday, October 22
🕐 5:00 PM
📝 Free admission with prior registration
The Agora (floor -1) will be transformed into a runway showcasing creations by a group of students from the Bachelor’s in Fashion Design. Their garments, developed as part of the Ecodesign Strategies course, are grounded in research and technical development to show that sustainability doesn't hold back creativity, but drives it forward. Their projects bring together material reuse and transformation, zero-waste processes, bioplastics, experimental textiles, and more conscious production strategies. A critical, contemporary take on the challenges facing fashion, built on the conviction that there's another way to design.
Faculty coordination: Gabriel Torres, Mallika Chaudhury, Cristina Real, Mica Clubourg, and Daniel Cantó.

MIRA'M (part of Underground BDW)
🗓️ Thursday, October 22 to Saturday, October 24
🕐 See schedule
📝 Free admission with prior registration
Conceived by students from the Bachelor’s in Interior Design, this ephemeral installation will be on view during Underground BDW, which will once again be hosted at our Parking Gallery (floor -2). A project of encounter, visibility, and recognition among Poblenou's communities that, beyond a one-off intervention, sets out the beginning of an ongoing relationship: a collaboration prototype aimed at strengthening the community fabric of the 22@ district. Through dialogue among all the neighborhood's stakeholders, it collectively imagines new forms of identity, coexistence, and appropriation of urban space in a Poblenou still being shaped.
Faculty coordination: Ana García, Gema Gilgado, Enzo Vignolo, and Pol Miret. Design Lab lead: Hernani Silva.

Typographic poster exhibition
🗓️ Friday, October 23
🕐 5:00 PM
📝 Free admission with prior registration
The letters will leave the screen to take over the street. Students and alumni from the Bachelor’s in Graphic Design will display outside the campus their own typeface families, brought to life as large-format vinyl prints. Each alphabet started out as a hand-drawn sketch and was gradually refined through trial and correction, an unhurried process that champions the designer's human judgment over AI automation. Out in the open, in full view of passersby, these typefaces will face their truest test, proving that a single letter can say far more than the words it forms.
Faculty coordination: Alan Ramírez.

Masterclass with José Scaglione (TypeTogether): The scale of letters
🗓️ Friday, October 23
🕐 6:00 PM
📝 Free admission with prior registration
José Scaglione, co-founder of the TypeTogether foundry and president of the Association Typographique Internationale (ATypI) from 2013 to 2017, will draw on real case studies to examine how letterforms are shaped by different media and reading environments. He'll also trace the historical and technological evolution of typography to show how every design decision affects legibility and the reader's experience. A session packed with insights for choosing the right typeface and composing text with sharper judgment.

With PRO-TEST, Barcelona Design Week 2026 puts the spotlight on process, experimentation, and testing as essential parts of creative practice. An invitation to move beyond closed-off solutions, put ideas to the test, question the status quo, and understand the prototype not just as a step on the way to a final result, but as a tool for exploring, learning, and opening up new possibilities.
BDW is a chance to inspire, connect, and mobilize the local and international community, showcasing design's potential as a tool to question, experiment, and respond to the challenges of today and tomorrow.
