Next Gen Design 2026 awards two final projects from our Bachelor’s in Interior Design

“La Galeta” and “Can Crea”, by Pol Vallès and Alessandro Pantoja, have been recognized by this European initiative that promotes design as a tool to address social and environmental challenges from a sustainable and regenerative perspective.

This is a model of a building featuring a long, narrow facade, two cylindrical tower-like structures, and a taller rectangular building behind. Small trees are visible.

Two projects developed in our Bachelor’s in Interior Design have been selected for the 2026 edition of Next Gen Design – Futures Worth Living, a European initiative that recognizes emerging talent capable of generating real impact through design. Driven by a consortium of leading platforms —including Barcelona Design Week—, the program brings together each year proposals from young creatives across Europe aligned with today’s social and environmental challenges.

La Galeta, by Pol Vallès, proposes a housing and cultivation cooperative model conceived to foster a flexible and self-sufficient community. The project puts forward adaptable housing units, capable of evolving according to residents’ changing needs, and incorporates cultivation spaces that allow them to produce their own food. This direct relationship with nature not only promotes sustainable practices, but also strengthens community ties through shared work and collective management of the environment. La Galeta was a finalist in the 26th edition of the CODIC Awards.

For his part, Can Crea – Intergenerational Cultural Center, by Alessandro Pantoja, proposes an inclusive and accessible cultural space aimed at people with intellectual disabilities, with the goal of fostering intergenerational interaction and active participation in cultural life. The project, which was a finalist in the 27th edition of the CODIC Awards, places accessibility at the core of the design and positions culture as a tool for social integration.

Both final projects will be part of a travelling exhibition that will tour some of the leading international design festivals, including Mikser Festival, What Design Can Do, Vienna Design Week, Barcelona Design Week, and Skopje Design Week. In addition, their authors will have the opportunity to take part in design residencies in different European cities and compete for awards that support the further development of their proposals.

At LCI Barcelona, we would like to congratulate our alumni Pol and Alessandro on this recognition, which highlights not only the work developed, but also a way of understanding design that is connected to reality and oriented towards generating positive impact.
