Looking back at Barcelona Design Week 2026 on our campus

Four projects, one idea: testing in public. Here’s a look back at the activities we organized for the 21st edition of BDW.

Two young women are presenting a project, possibly art or design related, to a small group of people. The presentation appears to be outdoors, with posters and displays visible in the background.

Under the theme PRO-TEST: Prototyping and Testing, Barcelona Design Week 2026 scheduled 140 activities across 80 venues in the city. LCI Barcelona played a key role as a sponsor and associated venue, hosting some of these activities and serving as the setting for Underground BDW from October 22 to 24.

A sustainable fashion show

Students from the Ecodesign Strategies course in the Bachelor’s in Fashion Design presented garments made from reused materials, zero waste pattern making, bioplastics, and experimental textiles. The show, held at the Agora, was a great success and drew both the LCI community and outside visitors who didn’t want to miss it.

Faculty coordination: Gabriel Torres, Mallika Chaudhury, Cristina Real, Mica Clubourg, and Daniel Cantó.

The image shows a group of 16 young adults, posing for a photo in front of a dark background. They are casually dressed and appear to be in their late teens or early twenties.
A diverse group of models, both male and female, pose together in a studio setting, showcasing avant-garde and deconstructed fashion pieces with a focus on denim and textured fabrics.

MIRA’M: ephemeral design for a living neighborhood

Our Parking Gallery once again hosted Underground BDW, a hybrid of exhibition, lab, and meeting point that brought together more than 30 projects from different countries. Among them was MIRA’M, the ephemeral installation made by students from the Bachelor’s in Interior Design to strengthen Poblenou’s sense of community.

Faculty coordination: Ana García, Gema Gilgado, Enzo Vignolo, and Pol Miret. Design Lab lead: Hernani Silva.

The image shows a group of people gathered indoors, possibly at an art exhibition or event. They are looking at displays and exhibits, with a focus on a metal grate structure with information panels.

Typography at street level

The campus’s exterior windows became a showcase for typographic posters created by students and alumni from the Bachelor’s in Graphic Design. On opening day, the authors themselves were on hand to present their projects to attendees.

Faculty coordination: Alan Ramírez.

Masterclass: The scale of letters

José Scaglione, co-founder of TypeTogether, used real-world examples to show how letters behave differently depending on the medium they’re read in. Everyone who filled Montreal Room left with useful ideas for choosing the right typeface for each project.

That’s how we wrapped up our part in the 21st edition of Barcelona Design Week: with the campus turned into an open lab and a meeting point for people from inside and outside the School. Thank you to everyone who made it possible!
