Next Monday, June 22, "The house of encounter with the other" opens its doors. A pioneering project by Fundación Arquitecturas Afectivas (led by architect Mauro Gil-Fournier) presented as an official project of the UIA-UNESCO World Congress of Architects and the World Capital of Architecture Barcelona 2026. LCI Barcelona joins the initiative as a partner school, a collaboration rooted in a shared vision: architecture and design as tools for building human connection.
An architecture built with soil and seeds
"The house of encounter with the other" is an ephemeral architecture made up of circular rooms built from sacks of fertile soil and native Mediterranean seeds. The installation can be visited at the Museu Can Framis courtyard (carrer de Roc Boronat, 116) through July 5, and poses a question that runs through the entire project: can architecture facilitate encounter between bodies, cultures, species, and narratives in a world defined by fragmentation?
Over two weeks, the space will come alive with performances and gatherings led by international artists, thinkers and activists, including dancer and National Dance Award winner La Ribot and choreographer Jone San Martín (June 29), Kurdish-British activist Payzee Mahmod (June 25), and Mexican documentary filmmaker Diego Enrique Osorno (July 3).

Two faculty members from our School are directly involved in the initiative:
María Lledó Cisneros, an alumni of the Bachelor's in Interior Design and coordinator of the Master's in Neuroarchitecture and Bioconstruction, is part of the Arquitecturas Afectivas team handling accessibility and partnerships. Her involvement shows how a background in interior design can lead to work that goes beyond the built space to consider the relationships that inhabit it.
Ana García, director of the Master's in Neuroarchitecture and Bioconstruction, will take part on July 1 in the session "The anatomy of a hug", where she will introduce architect, doctor, and landscape designer María Auxiliadora Gálvez, director of the Plataforma de Somática Aplicada a la Arquitectura y al Paisaje. The session explores the body, touch, and human connection as core dimensions of architectural design.
